Kids are a*w*e*S*o*m*e

So, it's rare that a single day goes by without the most amazing, or funny comments coming out of the mouths of my boys, or those of my nieces and nephews.  Parker has kept me quite entertained lately with blaming everything on "Bigfoot", as a lot has gotten to hear the stories.  :)  My niece, little miss Alycin and Parker are always neck and neck with their cleverness.

This evening though, I have to say, my Pierce really touched my heart, reminding me just how big his is.  My friend's little boy Jonathan is in the same kindergarten class as Pierce.  Yesterday, poor little Jonathan had a very unfortunate fall from the monkey bars on the playground, breaking his arm horribly, and ending in surgery. Today, when I picked Pierce up, he said "I made a card for him today and put I love you on it."  Then there was a pause.  And then, my child says "I just wish it was me and not him."  Wow.  Moments like that is when I am reminded of how much we adults could really learn from children, if we would really listen.

Later this evening, he gave me a good giggle.  He randomly asks me how many more birthdays he has to have before he can have a phone.  (He's turning 6 next month).  So I explain that he needs to be a lot older before he can have his own phone, and then ask "who are you going to call?" just to see what he would say.  I really couldn't have been prepared for the witty answer I received.  His answer to me was "well, when I have something to say I need to call.  Or text."  HA!  (Take that, mom!)  Could that be any more to the point?  :)  Stuff like this reminds me of the days when I was a child, and how much simpler so to speak, life really was.  We didn't even care about the things that are important to us now.  We never would have imagined that in our adult years things would be the way they are.  There were no computers or iPods, or cell phones to worry about.  Video games were rare and connections to anyone and everything were not at our fingertips.  Really, all I had to worry about was coming inside after the street lights came on.  It sort of makes me sad that our kids will never know the "simple life" we lived as children.  Some kids I know can't even fathom the thoughts of no sleeping all day on the weekends, getting up for church every Sunday morning, no staying inside playing video games.  No computers, no phones, no electronic devices of various sorts like what exists now, well, life would just be OVER without all these things!  ;)

Although their childhoods will never be exactly like ours were, don't let those times go completely extinct.  Get your kids outside to play and get dirty.  Climbing trees, making mud pies, playing hide and seek or kickball never hurt anyone.
